I can still remember moving into a hotel in Dallas, TX with my son on August 28, 2005 while we waited for the house I was building to be completed.
What transpired from the moment we moved in will stay with me forever.
We along with the rest of the world bore witness to one of the greatest human tragedies unfold before our very eyes.
Within 24 hours hotels in Dallas filled up and we found ourselves in the midst of a new found community of people who had fled Katrina and their homes in Louisiana.
It was shortly thereafter a partnership with the non profit I ran in Dallas, Rebuilding Together, partnered with Countrywide at that time, to rebuild 1000 homes on the gulf coast. My son and I spend a lot time in New Orleans, Delcambre and Lake Charles assisting the rebuild of homes affected by the storms Katrina as well as Rita.
There are stories of tragedy and suffering and in the midst of them are stories of the triumph of the human spirit, it still makes me emotional when I think back and those memories will stay with me forever.
I shall never forget.
